If I had $1,000,000...

Ah- The Bare Naked Ladies this song can always put me in an excellent mood.  It gives me hope that one day I actually MAY have $1,000,000.  When I imagine what I would do with "all that money"  I always think of the monetary ways I would be able to help people out.  It sure is fun to think about.

But, since I do not have $1,000,000 I usually settle for calling people at 8am on a Saturday morning to confirm they need "this great deal" that is sitting in front of me.  Thankfully, right now most of my friends have little children and are up anyway.  In a couple of years, when the kids learn how to make a bowl of cereal themselves, my call may not be so welcomed.

During this past consignment sale, I spotted the perfect gift for my baby sister.  She has a thriving photography business and is currently featured on Groupon(ends midnight 8.16.11)

I know right?!  How cute is this?!

It is a knitted newborn tuxedo wrap.  It is deliciously soft and any baby put in there is going to be one satisfied customer.

My 1st time

I spent most of the evening on Wednesday, getting ready for my first consignment sale.

Now don't get me wrong,  I have been a shopping pro at these sales for a couple of years now.  My focus has always been boys clothing, toys and books.  I will be looking at this sale from a whole different angle.  I have consigned 34 items.  That is after pulling several items to ebay instead.  This is the first time that I can legitimately purchase girls toys.  I cannot wait!

The first thing that I learned, is that it takes me WAY longer to tag and price than I thought.  (this is a common ailment that follows me though almost any project that I attempt)

I was so concerned about where the tag was placed.  Was it on secure enough?  Too secure?  Was I following the rules of the sale?  Goodness!  I know that as time goes on, I will have a more streamlined system.

On my wish list?  A tagging gun.

The dresser in my room was tagging central.  I had my tagging essentials.  Baby wipes, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, safety pins, zip ties, clear packing tape, scissors, zip lock baggies, hangers. All the markers a girl could want.  Did y'all know that I LOVE supplies?  Any kind of supplies at that.  Oh, I'll save that for another day.

The boys had a blast running in and out of my room while I was working.  I heard a lot of, "Can I have this, or are you going to sell it?"  They have had an excellent attitude towards this new venture so far.

I must say that I had a wonderful time preparing for the big sale.  It was nice to work at home, be in-control of my environment and start to make a plan.  Gathering enough inventory to get started is fun, but seeing the earning potential was great.  Cross your fingers for a great sale!

I weigh what?!

Getting set up to sell on ebay has been a tiny bit fun and a whole lot of daunting.  The shipping scares me.  I know, "aw-it's easy".  I have bought and re-sold two children's worth of gear and clothes and I have managed to avoid ebay.  This was no small feat considering at one point I owned 4 strollers, but only had 2 children.

Thanks to the great shipping post by The Yard Sale Mommy. I am going to do this.  At least I think I am.  I feel like a 7 year old at the edge of the high dive.  We'll see when I actually get the courage to jump and list something.  I told hubby it was going to be Wednesday.  Hubby is anxious to get my new found hobby organized.  (More on that later)

I went to a bigbox office supply store this weekend to purchase my shipping scale and let out a "You want what?!"  $99 to be exact.  Um... no thank you.

Twice a week, I stop at GW (good will)  Today was one of my scheduled stops.  I heard a little boy say, "74 pounds".  I turned, looked down (insert angelic singing) A SCALE!  Oh- and not JUST a scale, a Health O Meter Professional scale.  I have learned (kind of) to stay calm until I see the price.  $3.98   (Yippie!)

I placed it back down and stepped on it to see if it worked.  The needle sped to _______! (yeah right, like I'm going to enter a number there)

I weigh WHAT?!?!

I quickly hopped off so that nobody could see and broke out into a little sweat.  I looked back down at the scale and saw that the needle needed adjusting.  Back to 0 and I tried it again.  Oh.  That's more like it.  I tested it out with various items in the store and it weighed light items just fine.  I'm not quiet sure why I did that, but I did.  Again, I'm scared of shipping, remember?

So, now I have a scale to calculate shipping.  Hopefully, I'll gather up the courage and jump.

My dog ate my profit

I LOVE yard sales, GW (good will), consignment sales, outlets, clearance sales... are you starting to get the picture?   I can shop until I drop getting, baby gear, toys, clothes, etc.

The problem with this is that I no longer have babies that will fit in the above mentioned gear and I may get a few odd glances if I tried to carry my 56 pound boy in the great $3 sling I just found.

So now, if I find a great deal, I am going to snag it right up and pass it along to someone else.  I love getting great deals and giving them as well.  So here I go!

Day 1:  Spotted

Winter girl clothes.   The cutest TCP pink hat.

I imagined an excited Mom spotting it at the next local consignment sale and grabbing it with delight.  Excellent!  I came home, showed hubby my finds and laid them on the coffee table to get my camera.
When I returned, I noticed the hat on the floor.  Gasp!  A hole!  How did I miss that?!

Oh- I didn't.  The hole is wet.  The hole is from Daisy.

Pictured below is Daisy. When she was a puppy.  The way I need to remember her when she eats my profits.

SO. For today, my dog ate my profit.
